Patrick Vermander García graduated in Industrial Engineering at the School of Engineering of Bilbao (Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea) in 2019. He has specialized in Control Engineering and Automation, having finished his studies getting remarkable grades (Graduate of Excellence in Industrial Engineering). In addition, he obtained his PhD in Control, Automation and Robotics Engineering at the University of the Basque Country in 2024, with the doctoral thesis entitled “Intelligent sitting postural diagnosis system for people with low mobility”. As part of his thesis, Patrick Vermander has completed an international research stay at the University of Calabria in Italy, during which he developed part of his work. He is currently working as teaching and research staff at the School of Engineering of Bilbao in the Department of Systems and Automation Engineering. His lines of research include the application of artificial intelligence techniques, both for monitoring and identification of posture as well as the detection of postural anomalies. All this focused from a medical perspective with a view to improving the quality of life of wheelchair patients.
