On 2 July 2026, Irati Rasines successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Machine Learning Techniques for Training Robots in Collaborative Environments – Elkarlaneko inguruneetan robotak entrenatzeko ikasketa automatikoko teknikak" at the Bilbao School of Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

The doctoral research, which received both the Industrial Doctorate Mention and the Basque Language (Euskera) Mention, was co-supervised by Dr. Itziar Cabanes (UPV/EHU) and Dr. Anthony Remazeilles (Tecnalia).

The thesis presents a novel Learning from Demonstration (LfD) framework that enables robots to be programmed from a limited number of human demonstrations, facilitating the automation of tasks in real industrial environments.

The thesis was evaluated by a distinguished examination committee composed of Dr. Victor Muñoz (University of Malaga), Dr. Concha Monje (University of Carlos III Madrid), and Dr. Aitziber Mancisidor (Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU).

The ViSens Research Group warmly congratulates Dr. Irati Rasines on this remarkable achievement and wishes her every success in the next stage of her professional and research career.
